RE: RECALL OF IMPALA GEL NAIL POLISH (CARCINOGENIC RISK), CHILDREN’S IBUPROFEN SUSPENSION (CONTAMINATION), AND WITHDRAWAL OF LEVAMISOLE-CONTAINING MEDICINES OVER SERIOUS NEUROLOGICAL RISK.

  1. ​The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has received two (2) circulars from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on the above subject. The circulars are intended to notify stakeholders of the recall and withdrawal of the following drugs/products:
  • ​i. Impala Gel Nail (Brazil – ANVISA, 16 March 2026) due to the presence of carcinogenic and reproductive-risk substances (Trimethylbenzoyl Diphenylphosphine Oxide and N, N-dimethyl-p-toluidine).
  • ​ii. Children’s Ibuprofen suspension, 120 ml (USA – FDA, 20 March 2026), due to contamination, affecting Lot Nos. 7261973A and 7261974A with an expiry date of 31st January, 2027.
  • ​iii. Levamisole-containing medicines due to identified risks of leukoencephalopathy, a rare but serious neurological condition affecting the brain’s white matter.
  1. ​In view of the above, you are kindly requested to immediately suspend the purchase and use of the affected products and report any adverse reactions linked to these products to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
  2. ​Please ensure strict compliance and wide dissemination of this information.
