NIGERIAN BAR ASSOCIATION (LAGOS BRANCH) EDITORIAL BOARD

​Distinguished Learned Silks, Benchers, and Colleagues,

​The Editorial Board of the NBA Lagos Branch is pleased to announce a formal call for scholarly articles, personal commentaries, and practice notes for our upcoming 2026 Lagos Bar Journal and our high-visibility "Emerging Legal Areas" series, to be featured in national dailies including The Guardian, Punch, BarristerNG, and Bar and Bench News.

​As part of our mission to institutionalise the Branch Journal and showcase the intellectual depth of our Premier Branch, we invite submissions that explore contemporary legal challenges and innovations.

​I. CORE THEMES & AREAS OF FOCUS

​We are particularly interested in submissions covering the following sectors:

  • ​Finance & Fintech Law
  • ​Telecommunications & Information Technology
  • ​Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Law (Cybersecurity, Crimes, Jurisdiction, and Cyber Tort)
  • ​Intellectual Property Rights and International Maritime Law

​II. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES & TECHNICAL STANDARDS

​To ensure our publications meet international standards and undergo rigorous editorial scrutiny, all authors must adhere to the following updated criteria:

  1. Referencing Style: Submissions must strictly follow the OSCOLA (Oxford Standard for Citation of Legal Authorities) referencing style.
  2. Word Count & Requirements:
    • Full Journal Articles: Minimum of 3,000 words and a maximum of 5,000 words.
    • Blog/Newspaper Commentaries: Maximum of 2,000 words.
    • Footnotes & Lists: Word counts are inclusive of footnotes. In addition to footnotes, authors must provide a comprehensive Reference List at the end of the manuscript.
  3. Abstracts: All full journal articles must include an abstract of no more than 250 words, accompanied by a maximum of five (5) keywords.
  4. AI Policy: The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to generate or create any part of the manuscript is expressly prohibited. Authors must certify the originality of their work.
  5. Format: Manuscripts should be submitted in Microsoft Word format, 12pt Times New Roman, with 1.5 line spacing.
  6. Attribution: All articles will be published under the banner: "Presented by NBA Lagos Branch, written by [Author’s Name]."

​III. DEADLINE & SUBMISSION PORTAL

​All drafts must be submitted electronically to the Editorial Board Secretariat via:

Submission Deadline: On or before 31st March 2026, by 12 noon.

​IV. SELECTION & REVIEW PROCESS

​All submissions will undergo a two-stage evaluation:

  • Stage 1 (Compliance): The Editorial Review and Workflow Committee will vet manuscripts for adherence to author guidelines (title, format, word count, and reference style).
  • Stage 2 (Peer Review): Submissions passing the first stage will undergo a rigorous peer-review process to ensure the highest quality of legal scholarship.

​Authors of selected articles will be notified within 14 days of the submission deadline.
