The pursuit of excellence in the legal profession is a continuous journey, one best navigated with guidance. I recently received a stirring invitation from the Mentoring Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Lagos Branch, calling for both mentors and mentees to join a vital new programme. This initiative isn't just a networking event; it is a dedicated effort to uphold and elevate the standards of legal practice in Nigeria.
The core mission is straightforward: to pair experienced, seasoned lawyers (Mentors) with legal professionals seeking guidance (Mentees). The benefits for those who join as Mentees are substantial, focusing on critical areas for modern practice:
- Access to Wisdom: Benefiting from the tested and trusted wisdom of established practitioners.
- Skill Enhancement: Gaining enhanced technical skills and staying abreast of industry and trend updates.
- Leadership Development: Fostering leadership and business development skills.
- Strategic Expansion: Improving client service and expanding professional networks.
The programme’s success, however, hinges equally on the willingness of senior colleagues to step forward. As Secretary Ajibola Salvador stated, the ultimate goal is to "uphold the standards of the legal profession and contribute to its growth".
If you are a lawyer in Nigeria seeking to strategically accelerate your career trajectory, or a senior colleague ready to give back and secure the future of our profession, I encourage you to participate. The programme promises a suitable match based on goals, interests, and critical criteria.
Key Deadlines: The registration deadline for both roles is 10 December 2025.
