THE FINAL WORDS OF THE SECRETARY, NBA LAGOS BRANCH TO THE MEMBERS OF THE BRANCH.

Dear learned benchers, silk, seniors and colleagues,

The working year for most of us is gradually winding down. The holiday season is finally here, and the Premier Bar is certainly not left out.

Our football team gave us an early Christmas present with a hard-fought and delicious victory over our brothers in Ibadan who adamantly continue to contest the Premier title with us. No worries, we will continue to prove why we are Premier, not just in nomenclature but in all our exploits.

This year had a lot of highs and lows, and we remain grateful to God Almighty that we are here right now. We lost some colleagues to the nascent Eti-Osa and Yaba/Surulere Branches and won over many more. A few of us also crossed over to the Bar triumphant and we pray for the peaceful repose of their souls. I humbly implore us to come out en masse for the 8th-day prayers for our former member and pioneer Chairman of the Eti-Osa Branch, Mr M. M. A. Sanni, on Friday, 20th December 2024.

As we reminisce on all our achievements and lessons of 2024, I would like to take a moment to give a few final important updates and information:

Secretariat Closure
The secretariat will close for the holidays this Friday, 20th December 2024, at 5 pm to resume Monday, 6th January 2025, at 9 am. Please be kind enough to plan your forthcoming days accordingly.

ICSAN Concession
Recall the emails from the Continuing Legal Education Committee on the indulgence granted by the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) about the reduction in the eligible number of years post-call from 20 years to 15 years and applicable fees from N1m to N850,000. If you are interested and are yet to do so, kindly write the Publicity Secretary, Mr Omoniyi Onabule, at publicity@nbalagos.ng on or before 4 pm on Friday, 20th December 2024, to indicate your interest. The list will closed after the deadline, and only lawyers who have written the Publicity Secretary will be contacted subsequently.

Branch Dues
The new rate for branch dues will fall due on 1st January 2025. You can pay using the same members portal: nbalagos.gigo360.com. The Financial Secretary, Ms. Bennita Olejeme, will be available to answer all enquiries in the new year regarding payment.

I am grateful to my amazing Executive Committee, led by our boss, Mr. Olabisi Makanjuola, for his visionary leadership which enabled many of the successes we recorded. Right from Madam Vice Chair, Mrs Esther Ifeoma Jimoh, who continues to do incredible work at the Human Rights Committee to the ever-efficient town crier and image maker, Mr Omoniyi Onabule, to our empathetic Welfare Secretary, Ms Olaide Oluwayomi-Ajewole and then our Custodian of Order and Discipline, Mr Ali Jubril, everyone has poured themselves into the offices you graciously elected to us to. I appreciate our prudent exchequer, Mrs Onojighofia Oliko, who looks after our coffers, our Financial Secretary, Ms Bennita Olejeme, for ensuring our branch dues are promptly and seamlessly paid, our delectable and boisterous Social Secretary for always bringing energy and recreational fun, and our Young Lawyers Forum Chair, Ms Blessing Jaiyeola, who has selflessly catered for the interests of our younger colleagues. I would be derelict of duty not to thank my big brother, Mr Moshood Abiola and my dearest sisters, Mrs Uchenna Akingbade and Ms Mery-Grace Princeley, for all their advice and support to the Executive Committee. Last but by no means least, I give all the flowers to the assistant scribe, the petite but valiant Ms Adeola Olabamiji, for all her immeasurable support.

All the Branch Committees have been fantastic, and we commend all their selfless service to the Bar.

I am not likely to write to you again this year. To the Christians among us, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and to non-Christians, I say Happy Holidays.

It has been a pleasure and a privilege to serve you this 2024.

Respectful regards,

Emuobonuvie Alfred Majemite
Secretary,
NBA Lagos Branch.
