Distinguished colleagues and fellow Nigerians,

Today, we mark the 64th anniversary of our nation’s independence. The Nigerian Bar Association Benin Branch extends warm greetings to all Nigerians. This day serves as a powerful reminder of our shared heritage, our collective resolve, and the sacrifices of those who laid the foundation for a united and prosperous Nigeria.

Independence Day is more than a commemoration of our freedom from colonial rule; it is a celebration of our resilience, our diversity, and our commitment to democracy and the rule of law. As a nation, we have faced many challenges, yet we continue to strive towards the ideal of a society where every citizen can thrive under a system of justice and equity.

In recent weeks, the Edo State gubernatorial election has drawn significant attention, with varying perspectives on its conduct and outcomes. This event underscores the critical role of the legal profession in furthering transparency, ensuring accountability, and safeguarding the sanctity of our democratic processes. As legal practitioners, our duty is to remain steadfast as guardians of justice, offering objective counsel and advocating for the resolution of disputes through lawful and peaceful means.
