Three Revenue Court Judges appointed by the State Judicial Service Commission took oath of office in Asaba even as the State Chief Judge, Honourable Justice Marshal Umukoro charged them to shun corruption and gratification while discharging their judicial responsibilities.
The new Revenue Court Judges sworn in yesterday were Udugbu, Robinson Otuniya Esq, Ukuli Boeye Irene (New Diyerin)Esq and Biwei Ezekiel Simeon Esq.
Administering Oath office on the new judicial officers, Justice Marshal Umukoro urged them to live above board like the wife of Caesar in discharging their Constitutional duties, stressing that the Judicial Service Commission reserve the power to initiate disciplinary action against any judicial officer who breached the oath of office.
" It is pertinent at this stage to draw the attention of the three newly sworn in Revenue Court Judges that the State Judicial Service Commission possess disciplinary power over them and shall have the power to recommend their removal to the Government if they fall short of the required standards of learning character and other virtues that a Judicial Officer must positively demonstrate, " he cautioned.
While congratulating the new Revenue Court Judges, the State number one Law Officer advised them to arm themselves with the Rules of the Code of Conduct for Judicial Officers in Nigeria, particularly Rule 12.
Justice Umukoro disclosed that the appointment of the Judges was necessitated by the retirement of three Revenue Court Judges, the need for geographical configuration of the State and to reduce the pressure of persons aspiring to become High Court Judges.
The Chief Judge pointed out that the new Revenue Court Judges met the legal criteria for their appointment, having spent more than ten years at the Bar.
He listed jurisdiction of Revenue Court Judges to include; adjudicating on all matters concerning revenue due to the State from whatever source, revenue accruing to the Local Government Councils in the State, and all other matters on which the State Executive Council may by order publish in the State Gazette.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, Udugbu, Robinson Otuniya Esq, pledged that they would discharge their responsibility to the best of their ability, adding that integrity and justice would be their watchword.
Present at the ceremony were the Deputy Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly Rt. Honourable Ocho Christopher Ocho and member representing Ndokwa West in the Delta State House of Assembly, Honourable Charles Emetulu.
Others were the Commissioner for Housing, Chief Festus Ochonogo; Commissioner for Finance, Sir Fidelis Tilije and Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Chike Ossai.
